7/24/16 Sick and Dope and Everything in Between (Insert Tyga "RRRAAH")

What an amazing week! Like for realzies! No, this week really was one of the best weeks I have ever experienced in my life! One of the Longest weeks, but the fastest as well! Haha. Anyways, it all starts with a challenge, given in Zone Training. The title of the training was "I want this book to fill the world" The commitment, was for everyone to give one Book Of Mormon out Every single day. It started last week, and Elder Petersen and I gave 0 Book of Mormon out, (its caused for a lot of contention on how you say Plural form of Book of Mormon, I personally them some Book of Mormon. Or perhaps goose geese,  Beek of Mormeen, or ox, Oxen, Booken of Mormonen, Perhaps a gaggle of Geese, a gaggle of Book of Mormeen, I rest my case) Anyways The end of this story leads us to conviction, of failing at the challenge at first and then absolutely going hard for it this week. And to say the very least. It was sick and Dope and everything in between. So, we gave 13 Book of Mormeen out this week, however, my favorite one takes place in a part of our area called Ginza. Now, Ginza, is the place where a lot of street performers go to dance or to sing or to literally do anything you want, jump rope, skate board, yo-Yo, Tai Chi, break dance, eat, magic, anything. Cool so this story is focused on the dancers, if any one remembers a few weeks ago, when I met a dancer (June is his name) he was dancing with some friends and he remembered me and motioned me to go over, they were all dancing, REAALLY GOOD DANCERS... Like REAALLY GOOD! haha anyways, I started a conversation with June and he was super nice, I asked him if he’s ever talked to missionaries before, and he said that apart from me, he had never talked to a missionary, we were able to exchange numbers and Instagram hahaha and then we gave him a book of Mormon, I look forward to meeting with him and he has a lot of good potential!! Super cool guy!!

Anyways this week has been really cool cuz I was able to go on an exchange with a mandarin, Elder Ashton, he came to Tin Shui Wai, and we were able to do a lot of cool missionary activites, like Less Active finding, haha, pretty exciting.... hahaha we were discussing how we could effectively find these less actives and we came up with this really funny idea "We can Buy them fruit" haha, so I had saved a lot of money this month, and I had enough to buy fruit, so what we did, was we went to the local super market, and got apples, and we would show up to the Less Actives house and then give them some fruit, we initially bought one bag and then we knocked on doors until we gave the bag away... Anyways, Elder Ashton said it was taking too much time taking them back and forth, so he had me buy more apples so that we could just go from house to house... After that we were able to give one bag away and I bought like 10. so I spent about 150 dollars on apples and, now I have breakfast for the rest of the month hahahaha.

However, I was able to learn a lot from the exchange, he had a lot of interesting analogies about ward and missionary work, and how important it is, I was able to make some plans and actions for our companionship, and its already working out really well, we have this whole week pretty much scheduled, a few days this week, we don't even have time for our studies so thats a good feeling! haha.

Anyways, I found a really good scripture, that really helped me understand the Atonement, "All we, like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquities of all" Mosiah 6:14 I wrote a really long thing in my study journal, but I hope perhaps you all might be able to read this chapter. It really got me motivated about the Lord and how I can be a better and more obedient missionary.

I love you all, Thanks for everything.

7/18/16 Elder Petersen!! Why are you so White!?!?!?

Oh my land... So Elder Petersen and I just barely ran up and down a mountain, so I am sore and sweaty. This email will be an email.... YEAH!! So this week was pretty neat. Lots of stuff.

Anyways this week was a little interesting/Disappointing but still amazing. It started out as a pretty normal week, everyone was scheduling as normal and we would have finding time on Tuesday and Wednesday, so that The last days of the week could be teaching lessons and all that good stuff. Anyways pretty much we got to Wednesday where we start to go and confirm our lessons and literally all 6/7 get cancelled. So, it was a little frustrating to get those calls but we were able to spend a lot of time meeting a lot of new people, so you might be getting a lot of new emails about new Investigators pretty soon!! Exciting!!

Anyways, the one that we were able to meet with was Emily Mohk, she's a 11 year old girl in a part member family, Her father is a member, and he is really kind, his English is really good and its always fun to talk to them haha :) Anyways, it was a good lesson and the spirit was definitely there, we shared the video "Earthly Father Heavenly Father" And were able to teach the Restoration! It was a good lesson and I was very happy!

Cool! So, because we had a lot of time to find, we got to get a lot of good numbers from a lot of good people and life is really really good! Hahaha fun things are happening in this area.

Sorry for the little bit of a boring email this week, but it really has been a good week, I can't remember any day in the week where Elder Petersen and I thought it was a "Terrible week," And it really wasn't, In one of Elder Holland's Talks about Service he quotes Mother Teresa (If that's how you spell her name) when she says "My work is about Love not not statistics" and we were able to learn about that more than any other week! Anyways thanks everyone, have a blessed week.

Love,
Elder Chen

7/10/16 100% in 200% out

Sick week!! First off!! It was Not only mine, but Also Elder Jensen and Elder Petersen's Birthday this week. SO! We got matching Shirts #IronManVCaptain America... It was great cuz we get to keep the tradition of getting at least one matching thing with my companion, but its a super dope shirt, I'll attach a picture. Anyways yeah... WE got ice cream, and tim tams and spent way too much of our monthly fund on food this week. But it was a party!!! #WootWoot #TurnDownForWhat #BeatBoxParty #JefferyHollandTalksAreBetterThanTrap #FatAndFree #LivingItUp Also... Its actually pretty awkward cuz all the people in our ward were like "How are you going to celebrate your birthday???" And I was just like... "Well I mean probably finding or something" Haha pretty fun stuff tho. But we ate a lot... MCDONALDS SPICY MCCHICKEN!! Haha pretty good!! Good birthday!

Anyways this week was super sick, because we met a Catholic Angel... So here it begins. WE were doing some finding, nothing too crazy, and we stop this Woman, and its a normal street contact, we talk about her life, She's Catholic.  Anyways, she says something like "So when do you start working in the day?" And we say "About 12:30 every day" And she is like, "Your life is miserable, tomorrow, at 3, I am going to treat you to pizza." So we schedule her, exchanged numbers and the next day comes, and she confirms, us. We go to the Pizza Hut and have pizza, a regular meal with this woman, and we talk a little bit about her religious background, she has a really good story about how she came to be a Catholic and it was really cool how God played such a huge role in her life. Anyways, we shared a little message, and then when we left, she said "Hey, same time tomorrow, I am going to bring you Mango Pudding, cool?" so we were like "Sick!" same time got the pudding, this time, we left her with a Family Proclamation. Super cool and she is showing a lot of potential! Haha and she was like "Do you guys ever miss your family?? Don't, because you have an Aunty here in Hong Kong!" Hahah super nice woman!

Cool Anyways! This week was pretty fun, cuz I got to go on an exchange with a Mandarin Missionary! Elder Straford... We taught a lesson and my Mandarin is at least the worst thing in the world, but I was able to stutter out my testimony with the sounds from Cantonese to Mandarin, it was a fun time...

Anyways, A few weeks ago we said goodbye to Elder Anderson, he had finished his mission. But he left a few words of wisdom that really struck a Chord with me, he said something along the lines of "In everyone's mission, they have a mid mission crisis, where they come down to earth and go to the Lord and admit that there is no way that you can do this... You never know how strong you really are, and The Lord is here to show you that." After studying that principle for these past few weeks, and understanding it, it truly is incredible to me how without God we are strong, but with God we are literally limitless. I love you guys!

Love,
Elder Chen

7/3/16 My Longest Area

Yeaaaah. Moves calls came this week, and I am still in Tin Shui Wai, which means I still have a lot to learn! Super Stoked for this Transfer. Still with Elder Petersen. Yeah. Super fun stuff!! But yeah. The Ward is finally getting used to a new Elder in the ward! Hahahahaha Super sick But this week was really really good!!

First things first, I'm the realest.... No the ward is the realest thing I have ever seen. The people are boss... But I want to talk about a member in particular... Tse Man Sin (Sheila) She is an absolute boss. So Last sunday, she sent us a text saying "Elders, This is Man Sin, I am going to Salt Lake City Temple Square for my mission, and I wanted to get some teaching experiences so that I can be ready! So let me know if you need me to help in the lessons" Anyways super cool! We used her 4 times this week! Haha, cuz all she does is read scriptures all day! Hahaha She is super super super super dope! Haha like we ask her things like "What have you done today?" And she says "I read The Book of Mormon and Preach my Gospel, and then went and bought clothes for my mission" Hahaha absolute boss! Hahaha. But yeah, we used her for a lesson, and she bore like the Most powerful Testimony I have ever heard. like ever! She is so great!!

Yeah! Sorry My emails are probably full of meaningless stories that are better in person.... But you get them anyway! So Fun story, so Elder Petersen doesn't like fruit. Like Gag reflex gets activated when he partakes. But cuz of the Culture of China, they love giving fruit to you. and all that good stuff. So usually we go to a house and they give use big plate of fruit, apples or oranges, watermelon or whatever it is. Being the Amazing Companion that I am ;) I eat all of the fruit and Elder Petersen acts like he eats them. But this time, we visited a less active. Who gave us fruit... However this time we all had our individual fruit platters. With Elder Petersens Least favorite. Apples. Hahaha. I couldn't keep myself from laughing. But The Less Active insisted that he eat.  There was no way out, So I saw him take the first bite and struggle to finish it, and I see a little tear, form on his eye. HAHAHAHA. Anyways, I end up teaching most of the lesson while the LA just continues to force the fruit in hahaha super super funny. Good lesson tho.

Anyways this week we had service! super fun, we went and pulled weeds at 1:00 PM so it was pretty hot, but it was super fun! Hahaha, we pulled a dead tree out of the ground... Felt like Bear Grylls... Pretty fun stuff hahaha.

So this week I've been focusing my studies on Patience, mainly in the Preach my Gospel in the Christlike attribute section (I Highly Recommend it) but like every other Christlike Attribute, it always comes back to the Atonement. Focusing a lot on how the Atonement is Limitless, its caused for a lot of spiritual personal studies. So, if you ever feel down. Think about the atonement!

Elder Chen
